The rapidly growing fungal collections contain specimens documenting contemporary fungal species of our region. Dried specimens, wet tissue samples, spores, and DNA samples are included.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal spore collection.
We have approximately 2,000 microscope slides of mounted spores from arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). These asexual fungi belong to the phylum Glomeromycota and are obligate biotrophs. Spores range in size from 15 to 600 microns in diameter. Slides may contain between 1 and 1,000 spores.
 
Spores were extracted from soils and mounted in polyvinyl alcohol with a glass coverslip. Our collection include specimens that were collected in 1988 through the present and spore specimens from many locations including:
