GRAIL GEODATABASE Ferquently Asked Questions
How to get a copy of the data from the SDE?
For raster data Use the ID tool to find what data you want (Quad name etc.) then have ArcMap and ArcCatalog open. Drag and Drop from ArcCatalog to ArcMap. For raster and vector data in ArcCatalog under the contents tab you can also right click on the data you want and choose copy then paste to a local drive.
Can I connect to the SDEs at home? How do I connect to the SDEs from home?
Yes you can connect to the SDEs at home. You will need to set up a VPN connection to NAU (see ITS website for details). Once a VPN connection is established you should be able to connect to the SDEs as demonstrated on the connecting to SDEs webpage. Please note that you will need a fast internet connection if you want to copy data from the SDE, this is not recommended through a VPN connection.
Windows Vista???
You cannot connect to the SDEs if you are using Windows Vista. Vista is not supported by ArcSDE.
Can you perform spatial analyses on raster’s in the SDEs?
Yes, there is no need to copy the data to perform analyses on the data. The output raster will not be added to the SDEs though.
Projecting data?
All data in the SDEs are in their native projection and should project on the fly in ArcMap. If you have problems with projection you may want to copy the data to a local drive and reproject. |
