Each year six PhD fellowships will be awarded. The award will include stipends of $30,000 per year for two years. IGERT fellows can pursue PhD degrees in Biology or Forestry. Faculty participants from additional fields, including Mathematics and Statistics, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering, contribute as instructors and PhD committee members.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents and must concurrently apply to PhD programs in the Department of Biological Sciences or the School of Forestry at NAU. All application materials must be in to NAU by the IGERT program application deadline of January 15th for admission the following fall semester. Note that this application deadline is earlier than those of the Forestry of Biology graduate programs.

Applications will consist of:

1) The standard on-line applications required for Biology or Forestry graduate programs at NAU. Although the deadline for Biology and Forestry applications is slightly later, IGERT applicants must have all materials at NAU by January 15th. Transcripts and GRE reports must arrive by this deadline. Applicants to Biology and Forestry are required to have graduate recommendation forms from three references (no letter necessary), but a supplementary letter from each reference is required for the IGERT program application. These letters should address your match to the IGERT program goals. The online application does not include an option to self-identify for disability status. If you wish to inform us of disability status please do so by email to Amy.Whipple@nau.edu and Catherine.Gehring@nau.edu

2) An additional two-page essay on what you would bring to the IGERT program and how the program would address your research, educational, and career goals is required. This essay must be sent by email and hard copy to: Amy.Whipple@nau.edu and Catherine.Gehring@nau.edu and Dr. Amy Whipple, PO Box 5640, Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, AZ 86011

Finding a graduate advisor:
