You can search for projects in ArcMap either by clicking on map features or by querying for specific Township, Range and Section (TRS) or UTM locations. Researchers are only required to provide the location of their project at the TRS level (i.e., 1 mi 2), although some projects have provided a more accurate location of their study sites and thus can be queried through UTM (i.e., 1 m 2 resolution).
The “Clickable” map - The ArcMap Project
Open the ArcMap project (
) that has the NERD Geodatabase with four Feature Class layers already installed, along with additional layers to provide spatial context (Figure 17). Make sure all four layers are “on”, signified by checked boxes on the left side of the screen within the Layers box (see f igure below, yellow arrows). To view the full extent of each layer, right click on the layer name, such as “STATEWIDE”, and select “Zoom to layer” (see figure below).
For optimal viewing the layers should be listed in the following order in the “Layers” box starting from the top: NERD_UTM, NERD_TRS, COF_BOUNDARY, STATEWIDE (see figure below). If a layer is out of order, it can be “dragged” to the right place by placing the mouse cursor over the layer name, left clicking the mouse, and then moving the cursor to the desired location while holding down the left mouse button.
